The cold rolling process in the reducing mills produce undesirable hardness in the sheet steel and this is relieved in annealing furnaces. The annealing furnaces can be of the covered type, where entire coils are stacked one above the other and heated in a covered furnace, or continuous type where the strip is uncoiled and passed through a multi-zone furnace and again coiled up at the furnace exit. The annealing lines may be incorporated with a pickling section to remove oil and grease remains of the cooling fluids used in reducing mills.
